Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or closely related field, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Retail sales experience required; garden center sales experience preferred. At least 5 years’ related experience in a supervisory or leadership role required. Must have extensive gardening experience with knowledge of perennial and woody plants, as well as landscape design concepts and applications. Computer/point of sale experience.
Skills: Exceptional communication, problem solving and customer service skills; motivation and professionalism in leadership; respectful and supportive in personnel management; exemplify high quality customer service in an efficient, productive and profitable manner; exceptional computer, organizational, and administrative skills to maintain profitable inventory control; marketing skills to plan promotional sales to drive customer traffic; excellent horticultural understanding and creativity in merchandising; advanced horticultural knowledge, including plant identification and pest management practices; knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and maintaining plants in the landscape; the ability to multitask and handle high pressure and stress; have fine dexterity and be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, twist and lift or move at least 75 lbs. if necessary; equipment skills to load/unload trucks desired but willing to train.
Hours of Work: Management. Minimum of 40 hours/week in January and February. Minimum of 50 hours/week March – October. Minimum of 60 hours/week during the peak customer demand season in May and June. Retail hours, April – October, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
Benefits and Compensation: Starting Salary $35,000, yearly incentive bonus, paid time off, health and retirement plan available.
